Health
Our focus on health starts with our team, who enjoy the benefit of private healthcare and access to a range of support programmes. We advocate for fish as a nutrient-rich part of a healthy, balanced diet and offer to cook for our guests with beef dripping and vegetable oil, when feasible. We maintain MenuCal accreditation and CalorieWise certification and have achieved notable health accolades including the Catey Award for ‘Health & Nutrition’ (The Caterer, 2019) and the UK’s Healthy Eating Award (National Fish & Chip Awards, 2018).

We are proud to be the first MSC-certified restaurant in Northern Island and on the island of Ireland, as well as the first NI business to join Sustainable Fish Cities NI, an environmental campaign focused on seafood sustainability led by Ulster Wildlife and Nourish NI. As the UK’s Fish & Chip Restaurant of the Year 2023 (National Fish & Chip Awards), our enduring commitment to quality is in the consistent preparation, innovation, and service of award-winning food, drink and hospitality. Our Front of House team take pride in providing our guests with outstanding service and warm hospitality and work toward established certifications in guest service. Northern Ireland’s first fully licensed fish & chip restaurant, we also provide a dedicated al fresco outdoor dining experience on the Terrace in the heart of Belfast City Centre.

Education
Education amongst our team, guests, local communities and the public is integral to the Fish City ethos. We develop, implement, and maintain programmes of staff training for our team, with sponsors in Hospitality Ulster, Core Impact, the NFFF, and the Belfast Met. We provide our team with relevant educational field trips and support individual team members through a range of career and professional development opportunities. Within the local community, we offer a free educational Kids Club for school children to learn about seafood sustainability.

Reporting to the Front of House Manager, you will endeavour to deliver 5-star service to guests at all times. This is an exciting and engaging role for someone who enjoys a customer-facing role.

Responsibilities
Be the face of Fish City to the public: Meet and greet, seat, and attend to guests with a warm, friendly style of service
Troubleshoot appropriately to ensure customer satisfaction
Confidently answer phone enquiries, and utilise the online reservation system (training provided)
Learn Fish City’s style of food and service and be able to impart this knowledge with customers
Upsell when appropriate
Confidently run a section during service
Work at pace efficiently and effectively with the rest of the team
Assist in setting up service and closing down / cleaning the Front of House to a high standard
Requirements
An understanding of the importance of quality guest service
A passion for food is a must; bar experience desirable
Availability including evenings and weekends
Confident and highly personable, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Effective organizational skills, including punctuality and reliability
Professional demeanour and positive attitude with a willingness to learn

Kitchen Porter
Kitchen Porter
Reporting to the Head Kitchen Porter, you will endeavour to maintain the cleanliness of our kitchen and play a pivotal role in supporting our cooking staff.

Adhere to the company’s health and safety policies
Wash dishes, maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen floor, and remove all rubbish and take to the relevant areas
Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen equipment
Work at pace efficiently and effectively, with the ability to multi-task
Communicate effectively to management and peers
Carry out periodic checks on rooms and equipment
Follow all health and safety policies and procedures as directed by management
Assist the Kitchen in preparation
Report and where appropriate take action on any incident, accident, fire, loss or damage
Requirements
A fast learner with an interest in kitchen work
Adherence to health and safety rules and regulations
Availability including mornings and/or evenings and weekends
Independence: the ability to work unsupervised in a busy environment
Effective organizational skills, including punctuality and reliability
Positive, can-do attitude with a willingness to learn

Maintain standards for food storage, rotation, quality, and appearance.
Ensure full compliance with applicable health codes and regulations.
Preparation of ingredients
Learn Fish City’s recipes and methodologies, and be able to implement to a high standard
Learn, apply and master the skills of the relevant station(s)
Ensure food quality and taste is of the highest standard
Work at pace efficiently and effectively with the rest of the team
Cleaning of equipment, storage, and work areas
Multitask and maintain calm when working under pressure
Requirements
At least 1 year experience in similar roles & references in a busy restaurant
Excellent working knowledge of classic and modern cooking techniques
A passion for food is a must; an interest in sustainability desirable
Availability including evenings and weekends
Effective communication, teamwork & organizational skills
Positive, can-do attitude, hands-on approach, with a willingness to learn and ability to work well under pressure
