Fish and chips with a twist comes to Belfast's Ann Street

BELFAST'S Ann Street has been boosted by the arrival of award-winning fish and chip restaurant and take-away Fish City, which has opened its first outlet in the city centre.

Situated close to Victoria Square, it comprises 3800 sq. ft. spread over three floors and neighbouring occupiers include Caffe Nero, Yo Sushi, Urban Outfitters and Specsavers.

Gareth Howell from property consultants Osborne King, who was instrumental in the letting, said: “It’s encouraging to see that local independent retailers are prepared to invest once more in the city centre, especially considering the large number of vacancies in Ann Street back in 2014/2015.

"There have been several new arrivals to the street including California and Argento and we are aware of other retailers who will be taking up occupancy within the near future.

"There are clear signs of increased consumer confidence and demand that are equally instrumental in attracting retailers back into the city centre.”

In addition to offering an extensive range of seafood options, the menu at Fish City ( features more contemporary offerings such as wraps and tacos with various fillings, gluten-free dishes and lower-calorie options.

John Lavery of Fish City said: “We’re appealing to a broad spectrum of customers, in particular tourists, which is very encouraging. In fact, we have had so many foreign customers over the past few weeks that we have just added a translation link to our menu."

He added: “We have a strong brand, and while this will be our flagship restaurant, we hope to roll out more Fish City outlets across Ireland and the UK within the near future.”
