Fish City named one of UK’s 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants

Fish City in Belfast has been named as one of the UK’s 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants 2021/2022 - the only dine-in fish and chip restaurant in County Antrim and one of two restaurants in Northern Ireland to make the prestigious list.

It follows a mystery dining visit by leading trade publication Fry Magazine in which an anonymous judge sampled the food and assessed key aspects of the business from the cleanliness of the premises to staff knowledge and professionalism to social media presence.

With the pass mark set high at 95%, Fish City scored an impressive 97% with the mystery diner particularly praising the friendly staff, professional service, and the high quality of the food.

“The staff members were so slick and totally focused on their role of excellent customer service… there was a great atmosphere in the place” was just one of the positive comments, alongside the high quality of the meals with the mystery diner noting: “The batter was nice – perfect. Very light batter and lovely golden colour. The fish was white, flaky and really tasty!”

John Lavery, owner of Fish City, said: “It is a tremendous honour to make this list of the 10 best fish and chip restaurants in the UK. It is a recognition of the hard work of our incredible team, the passion and drive they bring to provide excellent experiences to our guests.”

Reece Head, competition organiser, comments: “Making the UK’s 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants is no easy feat, there are a lot of factors we take into consideration, but these restaurants have proved that, despite the recent challenges, they have what it takes to survive. From friendly, knowledgeable team members to top quality, value for money fish and chips, they are pushing the fish and chip industry forwards. We congratulate them on being one of the UK’s 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants.”

Fry Magazine’s 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants is in its ninth year and sponsors include Frymax, Middleton Foods, KFE, NFFF, Nortech Foods, Drywite, Friars Pride, VA Whitley, Henry Colbecks, Seafood from Norway, Catering Units, BD Signs, Pukka and Accumen.
