Fish City Belfast Becomes the First Business in NI to be Shortlisted for a Sustainable Seafood Award

Fish City Belfast is Northern Ireland’s newest offering to the fish and chip industry and has just been shortlisted into the Top Three finalists in the ‘Good Catch – The Sustainable Seafood Award’ for the 2017 National Fish and Chip Awards.

Organised by Seafish, this the first time a competitor from Northern Ireland has reached this level which is a fantastic achievement for the business. Fish City has been judged on their policies and procedures relating to responsible sourcing of fish and shellfish.  This also includes how they perform on educating and informing customers on their sustainability credentials, such as journey from net to plate and encouraging others to choose sustainability.

Located next to Victoria Square opposite Pottingers Entry in Ann Street, John Lavery of Fish City stated, “this is a great achievement for us as this award gives us the recognition we have been working extremely hard to attain. It is vitally important for Fish City to stand out from its competitors, as it is both a takeaway and a sit in restaurant.

“We opened in June this year and already providing breakfasts and meeting facilities; a children’s healthy menu; a healthy options menu for adults; a gluten free menu and all with the traditional fish and chips we know and love.”

Fish City is no stranger to awards and accolades as they are the first fish & chip shop in the United Kingdom to be invited to become a corporate member of the Marine Conservation Society; the first retailer in Northern Ireland to have been awarded the Marine Stewardship Certification (MSC) as well as achieving a ‘4 Blue Fish’ rating with ‘Fish2Fork’, and the first fish & chip shop in Northern Ireland to have received a silver in Green Tourism and Investors in People.

No other fish & chip shop or restaurant in Northern Ireland has achieved these accolades. The choice on the menu speaks for itself!

Fish City offers a unique experience both in its food and décor with a new contemporary design to its premises. For more information about Fish City’s menus and opening hours, go to www.fish-city.com or @fishcitybelfast #fishcitybelfast to keep up to date with new information about their unique menus and forthcoming events.
