Fish City Brings Home Catey
Fish City Wins Catey Award
Fish City in Belfast is celebrating this month having won a Catey award at the prestigious ceremony in London earlier this month. Considered the Oscars of the Hospitality Industry, over 1200 of the great and the good from the UK hospitality sector attended the award ceremony.
As the winner in the ‘Health and Nutrition’ category, Fish City have won this award based on their commitment to not only serve healthy, delicious and nutritious seafood, but for recognising the importance of sourcing their fish responsibly and sustainably.
With a free menu offered to children during Seafood Week, and a kids club running every year, the business owners are passionate about encouraging children to not only eat more seafood, but to learn more about the journey that the fish takes – from net to plate.
Speaking after the event, John Lavery explained why this was such a great win for the restaurant, ‘Winning a Catey is a huge honour, particularly given the credentials of the competition we were up against. This is a fantastic achievement for our entire team, and we are extremely proud to bring this award home to Northern Ireland.
What the Judges Said
“Fish City has an innovative model that could be developed by other fish restaurants. Its commitment to sustainability, traceability and nutrition – and its encouragement for children to try the seafood menu – should be admired.” Judith Gregory
“The Fish City kids’ club shone through, showing commitment to the future of fish as a source of nutrition. The restaurant’s consulting of a local nutritionist and its understanding of calories in food make it worth a visit.” Craig Hancox
“I love the approach to taking a seemingly unhealthy option and creating a food that can improve health. The owners’ passion for sharing their knowledge is contagious.” Hayley Miller
