A NORTHERN Ireland chipper has been named on the 10-strong shortlist of nominees for the title of the UK’s best fish and chip restaurant.
A popular treat among the discerning fast food lover on the island of Ireland, this particular title is being handed out as part of the annual The National Fish & Chip Awards.
The awards have been put together by Seafish, the public body that supports the £10 billion UK seafood industry, as part of a celebration of all things potato, fish and fried.
Open to all UK fish and chip ships with a sit-in restaurant included as part of their main business location, these chippers all offer the ideal dining experience for any tourists looking to enjoy this most distinctive of delicacies.
While the majority of the top 10 were located in the south west of England, Fish City Belfast struck a blow for chippers in Northern Ireland, in what is just the latest accolade to be handed to the restaurant.
The central Belfast-based restaurant has won a number of awards for its food, including the 'Seafish' Regional Fish and Chip Shop of the year award in 2015.
Established in 2013, the family run chipper has gone from strength to strength, helped by traditional menu options like its famous large fish and chips and more exotic fare like fish tacos.
The UK’s 10 best fish and chip restaurants read as follows:
fish! Borough Market, Borough Market, London
Fish City Belfast, Belfast
Knights Fish & Chip Restaurant, Glastonbury, Somerset
Malt and Anchor, Cirencester, Gloucestershire
Quayside Restaurant & Fish Bar, Gourdon, Aberdeenshire

Something Else Fishy, Milborne Port, Sherborne, Dorset
The Cods Scallops, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
The Fisherman’s Wife, Whitby, North Yorkshire
