Fish City raises £475 for Team Haven on National Fish & Chip Day

Fish City marked the occasion of National Fish and Chip Day on the 2nd June 2023 with a fundraiser for the local volunteer-led community organisation Team HAVEN, which provides outreach and hot meals for the homeless, vulnerable and those experiencing food poverty in Belfast and the surrounding areas.

Returning for its eighth year and run by the National Edible Oil Distributors Association (NEODA), National Fish and Chip Day is the biggest day in the fish & chip industry calendar, sponsored this year by Middleton Foods and the Q Partnership (Henry Colbeck, V A Whitley, and Friars Pride). Fish and chip shops, pubs, restaurants, retailers, as well as the fishermen and farmers who supply them join in on the celebration of one of the UK’s most iconic dishes.

In May, Fish City pledged to donate £1 for every order of cod sold on National Fish and Chip Day to Team HAVEN, and the team also pooled their personal donations; altogether raising an impressive £475 for the community organisation.

In a statement, Fish City expressed their gratitude for the support of many who chose to dine at the award-winning restaurant on National Fish and Chip Day to participate in the fundraiser.

“Many thanks to everyone who joined us on National Fish & Chip Day to support us in our fundraiser and to our team members who made their own personal donations,” they said. “And thanks of course to Julie, Dierdre and Cheryl from Team HAVEN for coming out to mark the occasion. If you haven't heard of Team HAVEN yet or would like to support the incredible work they're doing for the community, do check them out!”

This is the second year in which Fish City has marked National Fish and Chip Day with charitable work for the community. In 2022, the restaurant raised funds for local youth mental health charity Hope 4 Life NI.
