Fish City wins Sustainability Award at Irish Takeaway Awards

Representatives of the takeaway industry from across the island of Ireland came together on the 6th February 2024 at the Tullamore Court Hotel in County Offaly for the Irish Takeaway Awards, celebrating the achievements of friends and colleagues amongst the island’s takeaway operators. Hosted by NIMedia, this year’s event was sponsored by YesChef, FloGas, Bunzl McLaughlin, and the FreeFrom Food Awards.

Fish City won this year’s Sustainability Award, recognising and highlighting the Belfast fish and chip restaurant and takeaway’s commitment to sustainable practices. From sourcing and serving MSC-certified sustainably sourced cod and haddock and using biodegradable takeaway cutlery and paper products for takeaway packaging, to measuring and limiting food waste, having used cooking oil collected and recycled and filtering outgoing water before it returns to the local water supply, Fish City’s team are passionate about sustainability and limiting the impact of their activities on the environment whilst also serving up delicious, award-winning fish and chips.

Shane Smith, Managing Director of NI Media who run the awards said; “For everyone who is here tonight the fact that you have reached this room reflects on your commitment to your industry and more so to your own standards within your business. Being a finalist stands testament to the demands of the palates of diners across the island. We have had our inspectors out in force over the past number of months and they have chosen the businesses in this room to be amongst the absolute best that Ireland and Northern Ireland have to offer.”
