NI restaurant named the best at the National Fish and Chip Awards

A Northern Ireland restaurant was recently honoured at the National Fish and Chip Awards as they were named ‘Restaurant of the Year’.

Fish City, a fish and chip restaurant located in Belfast, experienced a very successful night at the National Fish and Chip Awards hosted by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF).

Not only did Fish City win two awards at the ceremony, but they also had the honour of being the only establishment nominated across all categories in Northern Ireland.

The National Fish and Chip Awards 2023 – recognising the best fish and chip restaurants in the UK

The National Fish and Chip Awards has been running for over thirty years. They are the largest UK-wide event that helps raise standards across the industry. It also actively supports the many fish and chip-related businesses throughout the UK.

The awards aim to recognise the very best fish and chip restaurants in the UK. For the first time this year, the NFFF hosted the awards. This saw a fish and chip restaurant in Belfast receive two big awards.

Fish City – the Restaurant of the Year

The fish and chip restaurant Fish City in Belfast experienced a hugely successful night at the National Fish and Chip Awards. It was the only establishment in Northern Ireland nominated across all categories.

They went further by brining home the title of both ‘Restaurant of the Year’ and ‘Environment and Sustainability Champion’.

Announcing the win, the NFFF said: “The winner for the Fish & Chip Restaurant of the Year category is Fish City. They have been chosen for outstanding customer service and commitment to environment and sustainability.”

Winning two awards – multiple success

On social media, Fish City shared their delight at their wins and thanked their staff for their success. They wrote: “Wow, what can we say! We took it home to Belfast! The UK’s Environment & Sustainability Champion and Restaurant of the Year!

“What an honour to be recognised at the National Fish & Chip Awards by the NFFF for our commitment to sustainability and the daily running of our restaurant, centred on producing quality fish and chips and local and sustainable seafood.

“So incredibly proud of our team! Over the moon!”

The fact that Fish City experienced multiple successes at the National Fish and Chip Awards indicates they’re doing all the right things. 

Besides being popular with locals already, their recognition at the National Fish and Chip Awards will surely attract many international visitors to their doors too to see what all the fuss is about!
