A fish and chip shop will compete directly with one of the finest show caves in Europe in an unlikely head-to-head in this year’s Northern Ireland Tourism Awards.

Last weekend we went to Belfast to check out the Fish City restaurant in the city centre. Located on Ann Street next to Victoria Square, Fish City is something of a rarity in the heart of Belfast – a proper fish and chip shop! While John Long’s has been serving fish and chips in the city since 1914, Fish City has taken things to another level, and this award-winning fish and chip shop just adds to the huge variety of eating options that Belfast City Centre now has.

A Belfast fish restaurant aiming to inspire city centre shoppers to enjoy fish in a healthy way has been shortlisted for a UK-wide sustainability award.

Three MSC certified fish and chip shops have been recognised for leading the way in the sourcing and promotion of sustainable fish and shellfish. Rockfish in Brixham, Devon, Fish City in Belfast and Papa’s Fish and Chips in Hull, East Yorkshire, are all finalists in the Good Catch – The Sustainable Seafood Award at the 2017 National Fish & Chip Awards.
